MEM05019D Weld using gas tungsten arc welding process (GTAW) is the second of three units specialising in the use and application of this welding process. MEM05019D is available for inclusion in Certificate II to Diploma Advanced Trade qualifications in the MEM05, Metal and Engineering Training Package.
This learner resource is ideal for those working in Metal and Engineering occupations such as, welders, metal fabricators, fitters, maintenance operators and boat builders etc. Specific technical topics in this resource deal with welding safety, electrical terms and definitions, power sources, equipment required for GTAW, selecting consumables, polarity and current, weld joints, controlling distortion and typical weld faults associated with this process and how to correct them.
A number of relevant practical jobs and projects have been included to assist learners develop the skills to deposit fillet and butt welds in the downhand, horizontal and vertical positions on carbon steel, stainless steel and/or aluminium sheet to AS/NZS 1554 General Purpose (GP) weld quality specifications.
