This learning resource was developed through a partnership between the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) through the Diverse Australia Program, the NSW Adult Migrant English Service (NSW AMES) and Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA). It is designed to integrate beach safety training into English as a second language programs.
The activities in the resource are aligned to learning outcomes in the Certificate II in Spoken and Written English (NSW AMES 2007).
When using this resource teachers should:

integrate Unit 2 into the program as this covers safety in the water

arrange for a respresentative of Surf Life Saving Australia to talk to the class or arrange an excursion to the local beach where a representative of the local surf club will talk to the class

print the A4 poster on page 63 – A guide to beach safety – and give it to their students to pin up in their house
